Apple Inc is considering investing at least several billion dollars in Toshiba Corp unit, engaged in the development of chips - for AMarkets materials.
Apple wants to buy a stake of no more than 20% by persuading Japanese corporation to retain the shares and not sell the business entirely. This is necessary in order to maintain control over production in the US and Japan, and to allay the fears of the Japanese government.
Currently, Toshiba has been selling its business on the production of memory chips in order to get money to help the corporation out of the crisis into which it plunged the sales Westinghouse nuclear division.
